Brick and Siding

I went running with my friend Alex on Tuesday and we decided to be ambitious and run all the way to my new house!  The thought of seeing the progress on my house was definitely strong motivation!  We had stopped running and started walking when we got to a pretty big hill in my neighborhood, but when I reached the curve in the road where I could see this:

I'm home from camp!

I was so excited when I got back from camp to see what had been accomplished!  Look at what I found:

The front windows in my office are GORGEOUS! If you look closely, you can read the sign:

While the homeowner is away...

I spent the last 8 days at Indian Summer Camp for kids with cancer.  While I was gone, my friend Katie took care of the boys for me. She and our friend Elizabeth took pictures for me while I was gone!!  This is what the boys got into:

We have walls!!

I went to see the house today as soon as I got back into town.  Much to my (pleasant) surprise, I have walls!!  Lots of them!! The entire outside of the house is covered with plywood, and all of the inside walls have been framed up!  Since pictures are worth a thousand words, I'll let them do the talking:

The Slab

The boys and I took my friend Sarah out to see the house today and we have a concrete slab!  It looked a lot smaller that I thought it would, but Sarah said her realtor told her that it doesn't start looking like a "home" until the walls go up.  Regardless of how small we thought it looked today, we're very excited to be moving forward with the building process.

The slab has several surface cracks and a bit of water from the rain earlier in the day.  It almost looks like abstract art.

We dropped by the lot late in the evening today and we were very excited to see that we have pipes!

Pipes everywhere!  The big ones are for drainage, the small ones are for water (blue for cold, red for hot).

It was too dark to take any more pictures, so we had to come back the next day, and we found that the LFUCG inspector had approved the plumbing work!  Yay!

Not funny, boys...

I decided to take full advantage of the first sunny days in what seems like WEEKS to check out the progress on the house.  

 Gravel was brought in and used to fill in the foundation.  It looks like once they got the gravel in, they dug some small valleys for what I'm guessing will be where the pipes go.  It was really fun to be able to begin to see where things will be once the slab gets poured.

The boys wanted to take some pictures on the bricks that will be the foundation for my office.  

They were so excited that our address was painted right on the brick.  I had to explain to Hank that only the builders were allowed to spraypaint on the house, and that we could not go buy spray paint and "draw on the side of the house".

I turned around for 10 seconds to move back a few steps so that I could get a better picture, and when I turned back around, THE BOYS WERE GONE!!!

There was a hole behind the front foundation wall where we think the sewage pipes will exit the house and connect to the street.  I'm not sure if Hank was still angry about not getting to spraypaint, or if Henry decided they should go investigate the hole, but either way, they were in deep trouble (and in a deep hole!!)  I don't think I could have rescued them myself, but lucky for all of us my friend Sarah was with us and she grabbed her umbrella and ice scraper from her car and was able to get both boys to safety!  

Henry's beak was a little squished, and both boys were covered in dirt, but they weren't ready to stop exploring, so I let them climb on the rock pile next to the house. They enjoyed it quite a bit.
